This calculator gives an indication based on Dutch tax rules for 2026 and is not tax advice. Not sure? Ask an accountant or use the Dutch tax authority's own calculators.
How many holiday days does an employee get? Under Dutch law (article 7:634 of the Civil Code) the statutory minimum is 4 times the number of hours someone works per week. For a full-time 40-hour week that's 160 hours, or 20 days on a 5-day working week.
This free calculator works out the statutory minimum based on contract hours and working days, pro-rates non-statutory days for part-time contracts, and — for a mid-year start — calculates how many days accrue in that first year.
Optionally, enter a gross monthly salary to also calculate the statutory minimum holiday allowance (8% of gross annual salary).

Frequently asked questions
What is the statutory minimum number of holiday days?
At least 4 times the number of hours you work per week (article 7:634 of the Dutch Civil Code). For a full-time 40-hour week that's 160 hours per year; for a 4-day week, 16 days. Non-statutory days from a CAO or employment contract come on top of this.
How does this work for a part-time contract?
The statutory minimum is calculated from your own contract hours, so it's automatically pro-rated. Non-statutory days listed in a CAO for a full-time contract need to be separately pro-rated — this tool does that for you.
What happens to holiday days when someone starts mid-year?
The total holiday days for that calendar year accrue pro rata: the later in the year someone starts, the fewer days accrue that year. From the next full calendar year, the normal annual total applies.
